The University at Buffalo Office of Science, Technology Transfer, and Economic Outreach (STOR) facilitates the transfer of UB discoveries into enterprises that create value and provide products and services that benefit the public good. STOR collaborates with UB’s economic development focused organizations to foster partnerships between UB – New York’s major public research university – and the business community.
What does STOR do?
- Works with UB inventors to identify intellectual property that has the potential for commercial development. UB discoveries are the genesis of new start-up companies or help launch new products and services that can drive the growth of established businesses. To review technologies available for licensing, visit our searchable database.
- Supports the formation and growth of new business enterprises by providing business incubation in the UB Technology Incubator at Baird Research Park, the UB BioSciences Incubator at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and through the NYSERDA-funded Directed Energy CleanTech Virtual Incubation program.
- Assists researchers in securing “gap” funding for development and commercialization activities, most notably through the Bruce Holm Memorial Catalyst Fund.
- Works with entrepreneurs and faculty to launch businesses and commercialize UB-developed intellectual property. This includes assistance with small business funding programs such as SBIR and STTR grants, access to a network of public and private investors, discounted insurance programs, entrepreneurial training and other support services.
